Admissions Essay Coaching
putting an end to white-knuckle writing of admissions essays and personal statements since 2006
What makes a Good Admissions Essay?
-
No new fancy words. No need to sound older than you are. You be you.
-
Think & write about your life in a new way and share those insights with your readers. Try to tell a story that's never been told before.
-
You are like no other and admissions committees are eager to meet you on paper and to hear about who you are and what you love.
-
Create a strong visual image but don't forget to include the details that will make you easy to recall.
-
Admissions essays and personal statements are new and hard. Get a lot of practice.
-
While a finished draft is the goal, the process of reflecting on your life, your passions and your future is where the magic happens.
Who am I?
Jennifer Kern
I'm an independent admissions consultant and former Assistant Director of Admissions at Cornell University.
Since 2006 I have been helping undergraduate and graduate student applicants from the US, Canada, and Switzerland from my home base in Seattle WA through online and email coaching.
My goal is to help students to best capture their authentic voices and write without fear.
How does this work?
Costs and Payment Arrangements
Students receive up to ninety minutes of essay coaching online via email for one fee of $125. Students may choose to sign up for further increments of 90 minutes if necessary.
Click “Purchase” below in the Contact & Payment section. All major credit cards are accepted, as well as Apple Pay.
What I Will Do For Students
I advise students on topic selection and help them to see what is missing from their drafts. I educate those who may be unfamiliar with the personal essay as a form of writing. I guide each student to make good choices in vocabulary, word usage, grammar, punctuation and capitalization. I enjoy assisting students in bringing their drafts in under their word count limits. Most importantly, I help students to find their voices and to develop a draft that they feel confident and enthusiastic about submitting. It is my hope that each student will find something they really enjoy about the process along the way.
What I Will Not Do For Students
I will not write the essays for students, nor will I heavily edit the work myself; I believe students are responsible for their own line-by-line editing, though I am comfortable highlighting sections for students that need more of their attention.
What Happens Next
Interested students may contact me with questions and to make payment arrangements via the Contact section below. Essay drafts are then sent by email and I respond to students with comments and feedback within 48 hours.
